Nutshell - To-Do List, Notes and Search Box Rolled Into One

April 29, 2008 – 9:49 pm

Hi again! This time I found a strange web application, but interesting enough to be told. The name is Nutshell - a 3 in 1 web application combo that includes a to-do list, notes and a powerful search box in one single interface.

Nutshell Powerful Search Box

Nutshell is the brainchild of Alex Griffioen and it was developed to help you search the web, take notes and manage your to-do list quick and easy. The interface is easy enough to understand even for first time users.

You can use Nutshell straight away to search for videos on Youtube, Wikipedia entries, Del.icio.us favorite items and other popular web services. The beauty of Nutshell search function lies in two features:

1- You can add your favorite websites to your own Nutshell search list (requires sign-up). That means that you can search all your favorite websites in one simple interface.

2- Nutshell allows you to set up keywords shortcut for each of the websites that you have added. For example, “tm” for TechMalaya or “pb” for Problogger.

For example, you can search for a keyword like “freeware” from the whole TechMalaya site just by typing “tm freeware” in the Nutshell search box. Imagine searching for the same keyword in 10 other sites within Nutshell - that is going to save a lot of time, isn’t it? The only letdown is that all search results will still be displayed in the original website, instead of within the Nutshell interface.

Nutshell To-Do List + Notes

The to-do list and note taking tool are really lightweight and are not much to talk about. You can add categories to your to-do list items, add some details, set some tasks as high priority and that’s about it. You can also receive what you have added via RSS, by email or you can print them on paper.

Overall, I found that the search box is a pretty powerful mass search tool but the other two applications can be a lot better. Try Nutshell today, maybe you will like it!
