Reduce Google Reader Feed Overload with AideRSS Firefox Add-On
April 22, 2008 – 11:00 pmI’ve written previously on ways to reduce RSS feed overload and one of them is by using the AideRSS website. AideRSS can reduce your feed overload problem by separating the best, great and good post using its proprietary PostRank technology. Therefore, you can opt to read only the best posts of the bunch, without having to flip through all the feed items for a website. Recently, the team went a step further by creating AideRSSs + Google Reader Firefox add-on that integrates the PostRank technology within Google Reader.

With the add-on installed, you can see the PostRank score (with 10 being the greatest score) next to Google Reader’s feed items. Based on the score, you can instantly recognize which posts are the best and not to be missed. By default, AideRSS will show all feed item’s score, regardless of how low or high the PostRank score are.

If you need to view only the best post and hide the others, you can use the combo box to filter your feed items (all, best, great, and good). This can be a huge productivity booster, if used wisely.

Additionally, AideRSS Firefox add-on also adds other social statistics that relates to a feed item, so you can see the ones that get the best attention from the Internet community.

The only downside I can find of the AideRSS plugin is that it takes quite some time for all the PostRank scores to be displayed and as it done so, you may see the Google Reader page refresh itself a few times. Other than, the results returned by AideRSS Firefox extension are pretty decent. Get your invitation to try AideRSS + Google Reader Firefox Add-On here.

One thing which may have people avoid this add-on is there Post Rank technology itself. Because there may be chances when it gives a bad post rank to a good post or good post rank to a greta post.
