How to Access Favorite Folders from Various Open/Save Dialogs

I’ve previously reviewed Haztek Software’s KeyDemon where you can use your idle function keys as an application shortcut. In this post, I am going to tell you another useful freeware that you can use to bookmark your disk or directories, so you can access it as quickly as possible. It is called DirKey.

DirKey defines itself as a multifunctional bookmarking software for your directories. With a simple setup of DirKey, you can access your favorite folders with a simple combo of the Ctrl and number keys. Even better, you can create bookmarks for virtually any amount of folders inside your system.

The beauty of DirKey lies in one powerful function - you can access your favorite folders from various supported Windows like Open/Save dialogs. For example, from the File Open/Save dialog screen in Start -> Run -> Browse, you can quickly switch to a favorite folder with a pre-defined shortcut button. However, Dirkey has one major flaw - with only 10 number keys (0 to 9) on your keyboard, you are limited to 10 hotkeys for your folders.

DirKey Features

  • Support versions of Windows from 98 to XP.
  • Safe to use, small in size, use little memory.
  • Able to bookmark local and network folders.
  • Best Feature: open bookmarked folders from File Open/Save dialog box.

  • Easily assign hotkeys to a folder with Ctrl+Alt+Num
  • You can also bookmark a folder without any hotkeys assigned with Ctrl+PLUS
  • Instantly access your bookmarked folders with Ctrl+Num hotkey.
  • Alternatively, you can access your bookmarked folders from Open/Save dialog via Ctrl+-
  • Access your bookmarked folders in a new Explorer window with Ctrl+Win+Num.
  • Use the tray icon as another way to access your favorite folders.
  • Quickly access the DirKey interface with Ctrl+Alt+-
  • View, sort, and filter function made DirKey’s bookmarks easily searchable.

  • Highly customizable - you can easily enable / disable unused settings.

With DirKey, it makes easier for me and you to access favorite folders from any Windows’s Open/Save dialogs. Less mouse clicks means a faster access to your fav folders!
