2 Really Simple Desktop Note Taking Tools
April 11, 2008 – 4:12 pmI just love simple tools that just do what it is created to do and I love it even more if it’s free. Recently, I’ve tested two really simple note taking tools and both of them are so easy to use. They are Pindersoft MiniNotes 2007 and Flashnote.

SoftVoile Flashnote
Nothing flashy about this program, but it is very fast indeed. Once installed, Flashnote will run at your system tray. To bring it forward, you can press the shortcut button (default is Alt + S). Press F5 to create a new note or F6 to create a sub-note. You can change some note settings such as font type, font colors and background colors. You can also save your notes in multiple files or export some of them to text files. To minimize it to the system tray again, press exactly the same shortcut key. Pop Flashnote in an out with a hotkey press when the need arise, as simple as that.

Pindersoft MiniNotes 2007
Unlike Flashnote that lets you create an unlimited amount of note categories, MiniNotes comes exactly with 10 tabs to store your notes. This handy note taking tool can be used to store to do lists, reminders, memos or anything that you can think of. You can change the tab name to reflect what you store inside a mininote. To send it back to the taskbar once you are done, press F9. A much simpler alternative to Flashnote, minimalist computer users will absolutely love this.

There you go, two simple and free note taking tools. Between both of them, Flashnote wins my vote. Know any good, simple note taking tools? Share it here by leaving a comment below.

I like the tabbed layout of mini notes, but it requires the .net framework - which won’t work for me at work. Trying flash note now.

Hi, I saw that you’re trying out different note-taking software, and I wanted to give you a heads up about a note-taking software called NoteScribe. It’s easy to use, and has more features than the two that you mentioned, so you should give it a try. It has a 30-day free trial. Thanks, and I hope you like it! Jake
