View Del.icio.us Bookmarks on Your Windows Desktop
February 20, 2008 – 9:16 pmI love Del.icio.us. Being a heavy user of the Internet requires me to have an efficient, online bookmarking system, and Del.icio.us provides just that. In addition to that, the social part of Del.icio.us let me share all my online bookmarks with friends and the public. I have long been waiting for a good desktop, social bookmarking client for Del.icio.us and at last, I’ve found a nice one called Netlicious.
Netlicious is a Windows desktop social bookmarking tool for Del.icio.us. It allows you to access and manage your Del.icio.us online bookmarks right from your desktop, without having to launch a web browser. Moreover, you can view all the web pages that you have bookmarked from within the Netlicious client.
Here are some of the features of Netlicious:
- Web Preview - view a bookmark’s website content from within Netlicious’s bottom right pane. This saves me from opening another browser window.
- Tag list - on the left pane, you can view all your Del.icio.us tags, either public or private.
- Bookmark list - located on the top right pane of Netlicious. Private bookmarks are marked with a lock icon.
- Editable bookmark - just like the online version, you can add/edit tags, notes,descriptions, mark a bookmark as private and more.
- Show post filter - Netlicious can be filtered to show only private bookmarks, only public bookmarks or both at the same time.
- Add a new post ability - for those who prefer manual bookmarking.
- Search function - if you have a huge list of bookmarks, this will be a huge time saver.
- Delete a post function.
For simple online bookmark access right from your desktop, Netlicious excels in doing so. I believe it can still be improved in various parts - the search function can be further enhanced and a cloud tag list with post counts will be a nice alternative to the simple tag list. The ability to search and access a friend public Del.icio.us is also a nice feature to have in future versions.
