Upload Flickr Photos in Batch, with Proxy Support

February 5, 2008 – 3:26 pm

If you are a photo enthusiast and browse the Internet behind a proxy server, you will probably notice that the default Flickr Uploadr client does not support proxy based photo uploads (not visible from the interface, at least). This is quite a hassle because without this feature, you have to use to login to the web based Flickr photo uploader to share your photos.

To solve this problem, you can use jUploadr - a free, desktop-based batch uploading tool for Flickr that you can use to upload your photo masterpieces, even from behind a proxy server.

jUploadr Features

  • Cross platform - because it is built in Java, you can use jUploadr in Windows, Mac OS, and Linux!
  • Recommended by Flickr as an alternative to the default Uploadr.
  • No installation needed - unzip and run!
  • Simple, responsive and fast graphical user interface.
  • Drag and drop photo upload operation.
  • Proxy support - that’s what I am talking about!

  • Individual or group photo editing support.

  • Advanced Flickr photo metadata editing - you can edit tags, privacy of photos (private / public) and descriptions of course.
  • Photosets support - upload photos to existing photosets or just create a new one to suite your needs.
  • Multiple, selectable Flickr account support - for serious shutter bugs.
  • Zooomr support - jUploadr even supports uploads to Zooomr, Flickr competitor wannabe.
  • Language support - “capiche”? 7 languages to be exact.
  • Photo rotator - correct a photo alignment before you upload it, one by one or in group.

You may think that the Flickr Uploadr looks way better, but this program will definitely win the hearts of Flickr hardcores who work behind a proxy server. If the developers of jUploadr strive to make the future version’s interface a little bit more user-friendly, this freeware will surely be a hit among Flickr users. Still, it is better to have an alternative like jUploadr, isn’t it?

  3. Looks very good indeed but Syahid A. how much slower it is as compared to the Flickr Uploader because of the use of Java? I am asking this because generally Java programs are slow and consume a lot of memory in Windows.

  4. @Jawwad: I don’t see any significant slow downs on my 256MB stone-age PC. Performance wise, I think this freeware will be okay.

  5. Great little app. The uploading works just fine, not slow at all. It didn’t rotate the images for me though. Have to do that in flickr
