How to Hide / Remove Right Click Menu Items on Windows

January 30, 2008 – 12:19 pm

Before you read this post till finish, take some time to right click on any Windows file inside your computer. I believe that you don’t use most of the items inside it right? Maybe you never really bother to know what it does. If you are like me, I would rather remove the messy right click context menu items from my sight, thus making it nicer, with less clutter.

In this post, I will show you how to hide or remove items from displaying inside your right click Windows menu with a freeware called Mmm (free edition).

With Mmm Free, there are two ways to tidy up your right click menu items:

  1. Move seldomly unused menu items to the “Rarely used” folder to make the default menu looks tidy.
  2. Move unused menu items to the “Hidden items” folder to completely make them invisible from the menu.

How to Clean Up Windows Right Click Menu

Here is your typical, cluttered right click context menu once you right click on a file. To launch Mmm, click on the small button on top-left of the menu.

On the left pane is your default right click menu items. There are two folders on the right pane - “hidden items” for removing items from view (can be restored) and “Rarely used” to arrange seldomly used items neatly in another folder. You can drag and drop items to either one of the folders. Once finished, click “Apply” to instruct Mmm to apply changes on the context menu.

Here is the result - a neat right click context menu with unused items hidden from the view and rarely used items viewable from a single folder.

Mmm free version will work on the start menu, folder menu and file menu - which is quite good for a free software that helps you clean up menu clutter. Of course, there is Mmm Plus if you are looking for more striking and cool features - remove menus from many other applications, the ability to create folders, wildcard support and more. If you don’t have the money to buy the $9.99 plus version, this one is quite okay to make your menu goes mmm… too.Try Mmm today!
