How to Save and Restore Mozilla Firefox Session / Tab States

January 5, 2008 – 11:46 pm

I don’t know about you, but I really wish that Firefox 3 will include a feature that will let users save sessions, so the next time I open my browser, I can have all my favorite links open up in an instance without having to click all my bookmarks or type all the URLs over again.

Meanwhile, I can only rely on a fantastic extension called Session Manager - which saves and restore the state of Mozilla Firefox tabs and windows.

What Session Manager extension offers (main features):

  • Save your Mozilla Firefox current windows / tab states.
  • Restore Mozilla Firefox saved windows state.

  • Multiple session save - (optional) you can have different sessions selectable to you once Firefox start up.
  • Create, rename and delete sessions as many times as you wish.
  • Open closed tabs - very useful to restore accidentally closed tabs.

If you are thinking about session security, Session Manager also allows you to encrypt your saved sessions. To summarize this post, Session Manager fits my need (currently) but I really hope that this feature will be integrated in future Mozilla Firefox downloads. That, in my opinion, will please a lot of Mozilla Firefox fans!

  2. Brilliant. Exactly what I was looking for. Google usually returns the regular Save Session extension (one-off saving) instead.

  3. Since Firefox 2 you can save your last session and ask Firefox to always restore sessions on start. It does not however allow you to save multiple sessions.
