Update Personal Computer with Latest Software via UpdateStar

December 29, 2007 – 9:16 pm

UpdateStar is a freeware application that functions just like FileHippo.com Update Checker, with a little bit extra.

UpdateStar lets you stay up to date with the latest software for your personal computer, thus lowering risks of having security related issues of any unpatched software, plus giving you the opportunity to enjoy new features of your favorite software application.

How UpdateStar Works

Once installed, UpdateStar will first scan your PC for installed applications from a single interface. It then checks the Internet for available updates for each of the software listed. This completely eliminates the need to go to each application website to find updates, which is very time consuming.

UpdateStar then will show you a list of available updates in a very user friendly list called “Program List“. You can then download the updates via the UpdateStar interface and install it on your own.

You can also separate softwares that need to be updated from the ones that are not by using the sorting function.

Notable UpdateStar Features

UpdateStar can also act as software uninstaller too! You can conveniently start UpdateStar on Windows startup and have it check software updates periodically using the Automatic Update feature. Other than that, UpdateStar can show you the latest news on your installed software via its interface.

End Note

Overall, UpdateStar really shines as a one stop place to find updates for installed software on your personal computer. Sadly, just like FileHippo’s udc.exe, downloaded updates still need to be installed manually. I wonder if such freewares exist in the wild.
