Songza - Coolest Online Music Search Engine and Internet Jukebox Yet.
November 19, 2007 – 8:51 pmIf you ask me “What is the coolest thing that you have found this month?”, the answer is very simple - Songza. Songza.com is an online music search engine cum internet jukebox, by a company specialized in practical web interface called Humanized.
It is called a jukebox because of one thing, you can listen to any songs that you want but you won’t be able to download it to your computer. Even without all the bells and whistles, Songza is one of the coolest web application that I have tried this year.
Songza’s Features
One of the reason that I love Songza is because of its intuitive, dumb proof interface. Enter a search term - songs that you are looking for / artist name, press “Enter” and Songza will display all the songs in the same page.
From the returned search results, click on your song choice and a radial, clickable pie-menu will appear. There are four clickable action buttons available in Songza - Play, Rate, Add to Playlist and Share. As simple as that.
Click on “Play” to instantly play the song or you can press “Add to Playlist” to create a playlist, just like in your normal desktop music player. You can also arrange your playlist by click-dragging the songs up and down.
To benefit other music listeners, you can also rate songs that you love based on what you hear. Songs that you vote as a “good recording” will appear higher in Songza search results. As simple as that.
Songza let you “Share” your favorite song with others too. You can email a friend Songza’s music link, get a direct link of the song that you like, watch the music on Youtube and embed Songza’s music jukebox inside your website and have it automatically played too!
The other bright side of Songza is that it is fast and efficient. It rarely returns the wrong search results and I can easily find songs in my mother-tongue too! Freaking awesome!
Songza’s Disadvantages
Songza doesn’t let you save your music playlist which is a BIG letdown. I wonder if they will improve on this in the near future. A volume control build in inside Songza is also another missing feature.
To summarize all this, you have to try Songza on your own at least ONCE. I am confident that you will agree with me that Songza is one of the coolest web application that you ever use this year - it is fast and responsive, with the coolest web interface. A definitely must try!
Bonus Songza Tip - press “Space Bar” to pause and click the arrow button to move back and forth between songs.
