AirTalkr - Multiprotocol Instant Messaging with Social Networking
September 15, 2007 – 3:06 pmThe web is full of new ideas nowadays. First, online chat and social networking web 2.0 sites are only available as separate components, but now, effort are done in every way to bring all these components together.
AirTalkr - a multiprotocol instant messaging client based on Adobe Air technology, does not just offers online chat to its users, it combines some of the industries famous social networking sites - Youtube, MySpace, Friendster, Flickr and Twitter in one page. This means that while you are chatting with a friend, you can read his / her social networking profiles from within the AirTalkr client.

AirTalkr needs you to sign up before you can use its services (still in Beta). Then you can use the AirTalkr wizard to fill in your IM login details - GTalk, Yahoo Chat, AIM, MSN and ICQ. Here are some notable things that you can do with AirTalkr:
-
Multiprotocol Chat - chat with friends from different IM services from a single client - comes in Desktop or Web Based client
-
AirCard - social networking aggregator for your AirTalkr client. AirCard will aggregate related profiles of a friend in a single console - twitter posts, blog posts, profiles and more. You can even request information for AirCard from a friend during a chat session.
-
Access and load your Flickr photos from the AirTalkr client. You can even save the pictures or make it as your AirTalkr web client desktop background.
-
Search, access and play Youtube videos from within AirTalkr.
The current state of AirTalkr needs heavy improvement, IMHO. The chat client lacks basic IM functions such as file sharing, smiley, text formatting toolbar and more. It will be very nice to see if future client improvements let you drag and drop Flickr or Youtube links to the chat window (and please make the Window resizable!). AirTalkr can be great, but that is a long way to go before that happens.
